Family Tasks does not collect, transmit or store any personal information about you. There is no Family Tasks account and no Family Tasks server. Your chores live on a calendar you choose and control — either a server you configure, or a calendar Android already syncs on the device — and the app talks only to that.
The short version
- We receive nothing. No analytics, no advertising, no crash reporting, no usage statistics, no device identifiers.
- Your data goes only where you point it — your calendar, and your email server if you set one up.
- Internet access always; calendar access only for a device calendar. The second permission is requested only if you choose that option, and only then.
- Passwords never leave the device except to sign in to a server you configured. Using a device calendar instead, the app never sees a password at all — Android holds that sign-in.
What the app stores on your device
These are kept in Android's encrypted preferences, protected by the device keystore, and are removed when the app is uninstalled or its data is cleared:

Choosing a device calendar means there is no password for the app to store at all — Android already holds that account's sign-in, separately from this app.
What the app stores on your calendar
Everything else lives in the calendar you chose, so that several tablets in the same household stay in step — this part is identical whether that calendar is a CalDAV server or one Android syncs on the device:
- Tasks, as ordinary calendar events, along with who they are assigned to, which icon they use, any notes you added, and whether an occurrence is done.
- Household settings in a single hidden calendar entry: the names and colours of the people you added, the monthly goal, and whether the summary email is switched on.
- The parent PIN, stored only as a salted hash — never as the PIN itself. A pending reset code is stored the same way, and is deleted once used.
Anyone with access to that calendar account can read this, exactly as they could read the calendar itself. Who that is, is entirely up to you.
Network connections
What the app connects to over the network depends on which kind of calendar you chose:
- A CalDAV server, over HTTPS, to read and update tasks — if you chose that option.
- A device calendar makes no network connection from the app at all. Reading and writing goes through Android's own calendar storage; syncing that to Google or wherever the account lives is handled by Android's sync service, not by this app.
- Your email server, over an encrypted SMTP connection, and only if you have filled in those settings. It is used to send a PIN reset code or the monthly summary to the address you nominate.
Beyond that, the app contacts no other host. It contains no advertising networks, no analytics SDKs and no third-party services of any kind.
Permissions
The app always requests internet access, which it needs for a CalDAV server and for email. If you choose a calendar already on the device, it also asks for calendar read and write access — requested only at that point, with the reason shown on screen, never at launch. It does not ask for contacts, location, storage, the camera or the microphone.
Children
This app is meant to be used by children in a family home, so it is worth being explicit: the app does not collect anything about anyone, children included. The names and colours you enter are whatever you choose to type, they are stored on your own calendar, and they are never sent to us or to anyone else.
The parent PIN is a lock against casual tampering — it stops a child editing or deleting chores while leaving them free to tick chores off. It is not a security boundary: the device necessarily holds the calendar password, so anyone determined enough could get around it. It is intended for a family home, not for protecting anything sensitive.
This website
This site is made of static pages. It sets no cookies, runs no scripts, and loads no fonts, images or resources from anyone else, so visiting it does not tell any third party that you were here. Your web host may keep ordinary server logs.
Changes
If this policy changes, the date at the top of this page will change with it.
